Recap: The EQ Hack Virtual Event
Last month UWIB members from across the country gathered for The EQ Hack, a virtual workshop led by Marlee Whetten, creator of The Hack, a coaching methodology built around the powerful idea that emotions are data.
When we stop seeing emotions as distractions and start interpreting them as information, we unlock new levels of clarity, empathy, and self-leadership. Over the course of the session, Marlee guided us through the four foundational quadrants of Emotional Intelligence (EQ) and shared actionable tools to help us lead with intention in both our personal and professional lives.
🧠 Self-AwarenessWe began by reflecting on two core emotional memories: one positive and one challenging. Through simple body scans, we learned to identify physical signals that offer insight into our internal state, a practice that builds real-time self-awareness.
⚖️ Self-Management
Rather than shutting down our feelings, we explored how to use them. The group practiced techniques to manage difficult emotions in the moment and respond thoughtfully, rather than react impulsively.
💡 Relationship ManagementFinally, we brought it all together. EQ isn't just internal because it shapes the energy we bring into every room. Marlee shared how we can begin influencing the emotional tone of a space by regulating our own responses, recognizing patterns in others, and leaning into moments of discomfort with confidence and care.
Relationship management is the heart of The Network, Marlee’s ongoing group coaching experience. UWIB attendees received a sneak peek of what it’s like to work within that space, and many walked away eager to take the next step. If you’re ready to keep building your EQ muscle and lead from a place of grounded self-awareness, The Network is a great place to start!
