Happied x UWIB: Empowering Black Women Happy Hour

unnamed.png

When women support each other, incredible things happen. This year marks the 100th anniversary of women suffrage, voting rights, and civic participation. However, Black women were not provided the same ballot box rights for generations. Fast forward to 2020, Black women still face barriers that hold them back professionally, personally, and financially. It’s time we unite and do something about this.

We are ecstatic to announce our second partnership with Happied (a Black woman owned and justice-empowered social platform) this year! In Happied’s signature style, we’ll be providing attendees another virtual cocktail making class with a strong twist of sisterhood. We’re also beyond pumped to announce 3 very talented women entrepreneurs and leaders in their own fields, who will break down how participants can take action on understanding, protecting, and elevating Black women in their communities. Through this insightful, needed, and sensitive discussion we aim for participants to further explore the signs of someone in need of support and how to become a long-term change agent for enabling Black women to be treated equitably and with respect.

This is a profound and eye-opening conversation that you won’t want to miss!

ATTENDEES WILL RECEIVE:

  • Expertise on ways women can support and protect Black women

  • Expertise on understanding how to empower Black women

  • Two delicious cocktail recipes to enjoy and keep

  • The option to support a local businesses by purchasing a pre-packaged cocktail kit

Webinar: Let Your Light Shine with Christa Davis

Join UWIB and Christa Davis in an interactive workshop to learn how to lead a life as your boldest and brightest self!

Have you felt that you need to 'pay your dues' or settle in a role because you should just be grateful for the opportunity? Or maybe you’ve been told you're too ambitious and unrealistic, and need to reroute your goals? Or for our millennials, have you been 'millennial-shamed' for being entitled, wanting too much, etc.?

There is no question that any worthwhile goal takes commitment, time, and effort to succeed. However, this does not mean you should shrink yourself and limit what is possible for you based on the limitations and expectations of others. Only you can decide your potential. If you know deep down that you're hiding instead of playing big for what you truly desire, then please join us in this workshop.

**Upon registration, you will receive a Zoom link to access the online event.

WHAT YOU'LL GET:

  • Identify what's really holding you back and keeping you playing it safe;

  • Learn how to define success on your own terms, and use this to guide your career/life decisions;

  • Receive stratgies on how to believe in and communicate your unique value to others

ABOUT CHRISTA:

Christa Davis is an executive & life coach, speaker, and workshop facilitator. Her motto is ‘Love Your Job or Leave it,’ as she is passionate about coaching women professionals to gain the clarity, confidence and courage to translate their unique purpose and strengths into a thriving career or business that they love.

About Our Keynote Speaker: Theresa Merrill

Theresa Merrill is a career coach, LinkedIn brand strategist and public speaker and who helps C-level executives build their professional brand, increase their online visibility and target career opportunities.

A former sales and marketing professional Theresa speaks to how your brand is defined by information found about you online. And that “you’re branding yourself each time you post content on a social media platform.” She shows you how to control that “digital first impression” with a compelling LinkedIn profile.

Her coaching provides actionable strategies that, consistently executed, led to goal attainment for a diverse range of clients at companies including Google, Microsoft, Apple, Oracle and IBM.

Theresa’s advice has been featured in The New York Times, WCBS Radio, The Muse and Refinery29. She has spoken at Credit Suisse, The George Washington University, BNY Mellon, Johns Hopkins University, The Women’s Bond Club of NY, The National Association of Broadcasters, Junior League of NY, MENG and Vistage.

About Our Venue Sponsor: Universal Standard

Universal Standard started with the two of us, but we actually wanted to do it for all of us. We lived in a world in which access was limited. We couldn’t shop together; one of us could hardly shop at all. It felt unfair, but moreover, it made no sense. If 67% of women in the U.S. wear a size 14 or above, why were their options so dismal? It was clear that all women weren’t given the same level of style, quality, or even respect.

We asked ourselves the whys, and then we asked ourselves the hows. How can we participate in the change we wanted to see? How can we bring all women together in a way that no one ever has before? We wanted a size 40 to shop in the same way as a size 00 – using style as her only filter, and we wanted to be the ones to make that happen. Our goals were lofty; some may say idealistic, some may even say impossible. But we’d have to disagree.

When we finally decided to take the plunge – leave our jobs, uproot our lives – we promised each other we wouldn’t go back on our goal to break down existing barriers and give all women Fashion Freedom. We put “Universal Standard” on a whiteboard and have worked to define that ever since.
